Where did the idea for Revive Coffee come from?

Our family has owned property in North Spokane for many years. We always wanted to start a locally owned coffee shop and even with the economic situation the way it is, we decided it was time to invest in Spokane.

What are your hours?

We are open from 6am to 6pm Monday thru Thursday, 6am to 7pm on Friday and 7am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The interior décor is beautiful! Where did you get your inspiration?

We wanted our location to be a neighborhood gathering place that is also a destination coffee shop, welcoming and comfortable for all ages. The wall mural was painted by a local Spokane artist and follows the coffee beans from the field to the roaster. (She even added pictures of our family pets!) We incorporated a bright and cheery color scheme with table seating as well as comfy chairs for relaxing with family and friends.

How did you choose Caffe’ d’Arte as your roaster?

We spent a long time researching and visiting area roasters, looking for a great coffee that would really set us apart. A family member worked near Caffe’ d’Arte in Seattle and had enjoyed their coffee. We chose them as our roaster because their authentic roasting always produces a consistent coffee. They have been very helpful every step of the way and we appreciate their commitment to quality over quantity. Tell us about their roasting process.

The roasting method Caffe’ d’Arte uses is called "post blending". They roast each type of bean separately then blend the varieties. The roaster brews and tastes each blend to ensure a consistent flavor profile. Five years from now our coffee blends will taste identical to what we serve today. Your coffee will never be under or over roasted – it will always be a perfect blend.

What does following the authentic coffee experience really mean?

To us it means roasting coffee in the Italian tradition. Caffe’ d’Arte translates to "the art of coffee". When Mauro Cipolla arrived in Seattle from Italy, he couldn’t find the kind of coffee he was used to and liked from home. He returned to Italy to learn the craft of roasting and blending espresso. He brought family members back to Seattle to help him and Caffe’ d’Arte was born!

Do they really roast the coffee beans over an open fire?

Our Fabriano and Velletri blends are both roasted in a refitted 1942 Balestra roasting oven with clear northwest alder. There are no dials or knobs to turn on this oven. Just below the main wood-loading door at the front of the roaster is a smaller set of double doors that open and close to help control airflow to the fire. The roaster must adjust each door throughout the roasting process like a piano tuner searching for perfect pitch, guided only by a temperature gauge and a sample viewing scoop at the side of the roasting oven. The scoop allows the beans to be inspected for color and texture during the process. Caffe’ d’Arte‘s wood-roasted coffee has a mild smoky flavor.

What do you consider your "signature" drink?

We love our Cold Brew Marbled Ice and so will you! We start with our "Toddy" – coffee that is brewed for 12 hours. This produces a concentrated coffee with more caffeine then normal and is also less acidic. We add both dark and white chocolate as well as cream to make our Cold Brew Marbled Ice. Yummy!

What if lattes hurt my stomach?

It may be the milk is being scalded. Our baristas steam your milk to between 140 and 150 degrees. This is the optimal temperature to keep the proteins and sugars in the milk from changing and still keep it tasting sweet.

Tell us about your baristas.

Our baristas are all trained by the Caffe’ d’Arte roasters and are certified in the authentic coffee experience, including Latte art. They are a fun and friendly bunch! They are also very knowledgeable and are always willing to offer suggestions to help you enjoy our coffees.

What’s with the designs in the latte foam?

Every latte is given extra special attention right down to the top of the foam! Our baristas are trained (and love to practice!) latte art. You may see a heart, leaf, flower or any number of fun artworks. To be able to do latte art, the milk must be correctly steamed – meaning not only does your latte look good, it will taste good too!

What is a "SMUG Mug"?

A SMUG Mug is essentially a gift card, in the form of a travel mug. Each SMUG is encoded with a tag that is linked to a gift card account. To pay for your beverage, simply use your mug! Click here to learn more about SMUG mugs.
